šŸ“ Today's Marketing Breakdown:

Today, I want to share one of the best marketing emails I’ve received all year and how you can replicate it for your business.

It came from Bilt Rewards - the credit card company that lets you earn points on rent.

Note: I’m not affiliated with Bilt in any way. I’m just a customer and a huge fan.

On December 1st, I received this email from them:

This is an A+ marketing email for 3 reasons:

  1. It’s fun and unique.

  2. They’re giving value to the customer.

  3. They’re receiving value as a business.

Let’s break down each of these reasons in more detail šŸ‘‡

🧲 Fun and Unique:

The first thing I love about this email is it’s unlike any email I’ve received before. It’s fun, unique, and I was drawn in as soon as I opened it.

I don’t know about you, but I love puzzles, wordle, problem solving, etc. Any type of short, fun, mind game and I’m locked in.

But what’s most impressive…

They took a painful experience (rent day) and turned it into a slightly more enjoyable one.

🧲 Provides Value:

ā€œGet your rent paid, on us.ā€

If that isn’t an A++ hook, I don’t know what is.

This isn’t a ā€œ10% off your next orderā€ type of campaign. This is an awesome value they’re providing for 3 lucky customers. The type of offer you tell your friends about (or thousands of newsletter subscribers).

And if you don’t end up winning, at the very least, you were entertained.

🧲 Generates Value For The Business:

Most giveaways I see in the email marketing world suck. They’re often used as click bait to get email signups.

And those extra email signups end up being way less valuable vs. a normal lead because these giveaway signups are just promo hunting.

This giveaway flips that notion on its head. It’s sent to existing customers and increases brand loyalty.

Here’s why it’s genius:

  • It makes customers look forward to rent day - the backbone of their business.

  • It puts the ā€œrewardsā€ in ā€œBilt Rewardsā€ which reinforces their brand.

  • It drives people to their Instagram page to see if they won. Judging by their 41.9K followers, I think it's safe to say these types of campaigns are doing alright.

🪜 Next Steps To Take:

  1. Think of a short word puzzle that would be on brand for your company.

  2. Come up with an offer worth talking about.

  3. Set up a quick form to collect responses.

  4. Send the email to your existing customers.

  5. Announce the winner on a social channel you want to grow.

  6. Send a follow-up email or text telling people to go to that social channel and see who won.

There you have it! 1 marketing breakdown to help grow your e-commerce business.

āļø Here's one other golden nugget for this week:
