The best marketing email I've received all year

This company can now consider me a customer for life.

Not the best intro... but we'll take it for this week! ChatGPT has some work to do in the jokes department. A small win for humans everywhere.

šŸ“ Today's Marketing Breakdown:

Today, I want to share one of the best marketing emails Iā€™ve received all year and how you can replicate it for your business.

It came from Bilt Rewards - the credit card company that lets you earn points on rent.

Note: Iā€™m not affiliated with Bilt in any way. Iā€™m just a customer and a huge fan.

On December 1st, I received this email from them:

This is an A+ marketing email for 3 reasons:

  1. Itā€™s fun and unique.

  2. Theyā€™re giving value to the customer.

  3. Theyā€™re receiving value as a business.

Letā€™s break down each of these reasons in more detail šŸ‘‡

šŸ§² Fun and Unique:

The first thing I love about this email is itā€™s unlike any email Iā€™ve received before. Itā€™s fun, unique, and I was drawn in as soon as I opened it.

I donā€™t know about you, but I love puzzles, wordle, problem solving, etc. Any type of short, fun, mind game and Iā€™m locked in.

But whatā€™s most impressiveā€¦

They took a painful experience (rent day) and turned it into a slightly more enjoyable one.

šŸ§² Provides Value:

ā€œGet your rent paid, on us.ā€

If that isnā€™t an A++ hook, I donā€™t know what is.

This isnā€™t a ā€œ10% off your next orderā€ type of campaign. This is an awesome value theyā€™re providing for 3 lucky customers. The type of offer you tell your friends about (or thousands of newsletter subscribers).

And if you donā€™t end up winning, at the very least, you were entertained.

šŸ§² Generates Value For The Business:

Most giveaways I see in the email marketing world suck. Theyā€™re often used as click bait to get email signups.

And those extra email signups end up being way less valuable vs. a normal lead because these giveaway signups are just promo hunting.

This giveaway flips that notion on its head. Itā€™s sent to existing customers and increases brand loyalty.

Hereā€™s why itā€™s genius:

  • It makes customers look forward to rent day - the backbone of their business.

  • It puts the ā€œrewardsā€ in ā€œBilt Rewardsā€ which reinforces their brand.

  • It drives people to their Instagram page to see if they won. Judging by their 41.9K followers, I think it's safe to say these types of campaigns are doing alright.

šŸŖœ Next Steps To Take:

  1. Think of a short word puzzle that would be on brand for your company.

  2. Come up with an offer worth talking about.

  3. Set up a quick form to collect responses.

  4. Send the email to your existing customers.

  5. Announce the winner on a social channel you want to grow.

  6. Send a follow-up email or text telling people to go to that social channel and see who won.

There you have it! 1 marketing breakdown to help grow your e-commerce business.
